Women business-owners have been less affected by the recession because they tend to take fewer risks and grow their firms at a slower rate, an Everywoman report suggests. The Voice of Everywoman report found that 50 per cent of female business-owners said the recession had not impacted on their business, compared with only 38 per cent of men. Are woman naturally more cautious in their approach to business? Does all that testosterone make men more likely to take chances?
Ooh great topic!
I am not sure caution would be a major factor in the affect of the recession... Perhaps women are simply better managers?? The ones that I have come across in comparison to men are certainly more organised and therefore more prepared in a crises...
As for Sean's comment - I think you have mistaken 'Emotion' for Passion - a great attribute to anyone in business!
I agree with Kerry.
Women seem to be more organised and take time to think things through more then men in business. So not sure it's caution as such.
Kerry passion is something I certainly understand as I have a passion for everything I do in business but from most of the women entrepreneurs I have met they have let actual emotion influence their decision making and often for the worst. That is not to say women dont make for great business owners because they do!
From personal experience dealing with females in business and entrepreneurial women I do find them to be much more cautious and I believe this can be both beneficial as they think first about thinks more than a man would but also can be a great downfall as they take too long or over think things and often let emotion come into play.
Thoughts?
