Recently, our entrepreneurs have been saying how tired they are. Matt in Fishbowl One has been travelling all over the country to organise venues for his business launch tour, and has been getting a maximum of 4 hours sleep per night, often sleeping on his friend's floors! He explains in this video how he is so tired but still loving it - http://inafishbowl.com/Fishbowl-One/tired-but-loving-it.html
Then there's Dom and Owain in Fishbowl Three. Following the advice of Expert Claire Young (finalist on The Apprentice 2004 - http://inafishbowl.com/claire-young.html), the pair took a week long break from their business after becoming so run down that they were losing motivation. They are now back to work refreshed and raring to go - http://inafishbowl.com/Fishbowl-Three/video-taking-a-break.html.
But how can you avoid this tiredness when you're running your own business? The stress and the ownership can really take it's toll, but when you're the only one working, how can you take time off?
These guys love what they're doing, but eventually it must get you down.
Does anyone have any tips for staying energised and upbeat when you're running your own business?
Absolutely. Changes of scenery are great to relieving stress and clearing the mind, helping us to work better and more efficiently too!
I would certainly agree with having a healthy diet and drinking lots of water. It sounds basic but over a period of time will really improve your attention span. I also find that just taking a 5 or 10 minute break once or twice in the day can really help. Just walk away from your laptop or iPhone for a bit! Staying focused 100% of the time when you run your own business is tough but I find it helps to try and change your environment every so often... Clean and tidy your workspace or office, try some new music you haven't heard before or rearrange your furniture. Sounds weird but small changes can make a big difference.
I've got a really busy week this week and I have found my energy levels are up by eathing really healthily. It takes longer to go to the supermarket and buy proper food and chop up all the veg, but it is helping a lot. Hopefully by the end of this project there will not be a microwave ready meal in sight!
I do find that exercising helps me when I feel tired. Also drinking plenty of water.
It sounds nonsensical but exercise really helps! You sleep better and have more energy.
