I've always been interested in business and the idea of being my own boss, most of the members here are already business owners and have years of experience. I still haven't made the first step and still in the important planning stage. I just wanted to run a quick idea past people and get some suggestions or opinions good or bad.
I was thinking about starting up a PR company that manages singers, clowns, entertainers, etc not famous singers, singers that sing in pubs and clubs. I'd start by advertising and getting people on my books and go around the local pubs and clubs and try and get the owners to contact my agency for entertainment. This would extend to kids partys where parents could ring me for example a magician/clown, the business could extend to all different trades. this would not bring in a great income in the first few months but eventually once expanded over the local area and spread out to surrounding locations could start making a decent income.
I have other ideas alongside this to offer to clients, I just wanted some opinions good or bad so look forward to replies. I know in business you must keep your cards close to your chest, but this is a brief outline of my plan.

You could even offer alternative entertainment for weddings with your ideas.
Reply to ninephotos,
I could expand to entertainment in a wedding setup from photographers to dancers, singers, etc.
Hi Dan
Welcome to Start Up Donut! I would highly recommend being your own boss, as scary a step as it may seem.
It sounds as though you have a strong idea and you've thought about how to market yourself, so it's got to be worth a shot. You could also contact nurseries and schools to get your name around for kids parties and perhaps even contact local toy shops?
Are you planning on combining your new business with a full-time job for the time being? If so, you haven't got much to lose and when you're ready you can leave your job and then focus solely on your highly successful agency!
I would say go for it! Life is short and there's nothing like being in charge of your own destiny...

The idea can extend to everything, the possibilities are endless and there is some other ideas that are going to be kept to myself for now. I am not in work for the time being more of a student, I have thought about this for 2 years and researched into this alot. I am kinda stumped at payments, I would take a percentage of them for each gig etc they do. how would the payment process be done ? ideas on this very much appreciated.
Thanks to the replies, very much appreciated and look forward to future contact via the forums
Daniel
Hi Dan
For payments I would assume you take a percentage of the money for each gig, or mark up each gig by whatever amount you see fit.
You'd do all the invoicing (I'm guessing it'll be pre-payment most of the time) and then pay your suppliers whatever you've agreed for their services after the event.
I hope that helps? Keep us posted on how you're getting on.
Allie
