Managing poor performance and linking pay to achievement are among the topics covered in a new Acas guide advising employers on how to get the best out of their staff.

The downloadable pdf How to manage performance guide sets out why it is important to monitor staff performance and how employers can introduce different types of performance review systems.

In addition, the guide provides practical hints and tips on the best methods of recording staff performance, as well as sample record sheets that employers can adapt to suit their own business.

Acas chief executive, John Taylor, said managing performance is essential to maintaining a productive workplace. “This new guidance gives employers a chance to monitor performance, develop skills and gives employees the chance to express themselves,” he said.
