Thousands of businesses are started every year, with many requiring financial backing to get them on their feet.
Government lending scheme Start Up Loans offers a helping hand to new businesses - and according to official data, the organisation lent almost £63 million to new UK businesses in 2017 alone. The loans were awarded in more than 20 sectors, from manufacturing to agriculture and health and social care.
The data reveals some interesting start-up trends - for example, after London, the region receiving the most investment in art and entertainment activities was the West Midlands.
The sector that received the most funding overall was wholesale and retail, with a whopping investment total of £10.8 million.
