Course fee dropped to help small firms win public sector contracts

Small firms competing for government contracts can now access Learn Direct’s online training course on public sector procurement for free.

The Winning the Contract course previously cost £49.99, but the fee has been dropped to allow all businesses to access the course.

The training has also been split into six shorter modules to make it easier for firms to complete. The modules are Course Introduction, The Public Sector, Challenges and Barriers, Types of Contract, Finding Opportunities and Tender Responses.

The course also includes guidance on how to bid for public sector contracts through the Supply2gov.uk website, and case studies of small firms which have recently won public sector contracts.

“Small and medium-sized businesses already sell their goods and services to the public sector, but many more could do so,” said the Minister for Trade, Investment and Small Business, Lord Davies. “Opening up public sector procurement to a wider range of suppliers provides new opportunities for small businesses as the UK economy heads towards growth.”

To access the course businesses need to register on the Learn Direct Business website. The entire six module course takes an average of four hours to complete, but it can also be completed one module at a time.
