Small businesses in the West Midlands which are struggling during the downturn can get help expanding overseas, following the launch of a grant scheme by West Midlands International Trade (WMIT).
Grants of up to £2,500 are available through WMIT, a shared initiative between regional Chambers of Commerce, regional development agency Advantage West Midlands and UK Trade & Investment.
Funding is available to cover the cost of a range of activities, including developing an international trade strategy, business travel, attending overseas trade fairs and carrying out international market research.
To be eligible, firms must be based in the West Midlands, employ fewer than 250 staff and have a turnover of less than £45 million per year. Businesses within the food and drink industry are excluded from the scheme.
"This is just one example of the help available from UK Trade & Investment's team of more than 35 international trade advisors across the region, enabling West Midlands firms to become successful exporters," said WMIT operations director, Allen Matty.
