If you're looking for ways to make sure your employees are happy and motivated, but you're unsure where to begin, then don't worry - you have definitely come to the right place. Whether you're just starting to employ team members or you have had staff for years, you need to ensure that they're happy in their jobs.

Luckily, there are lots of ways you can do exactly that. From ensuring they have a safe work environment to rewarding them when they hit their targets, the more you're doing for them, the better.

With that in mind, here are eight ways to ensure your staff are motivated and happy.

1. Provide a safe space to work

One of the best things you can do when it comes to keeping your employees motivated at work is ensuring they have a safe office environment. Whether that means it’s physically safe or it’s a place they feel comfortable coming to five days a week, you need to do all that you can to ensure they enjoy the environment they work in.

Although it can be difficult, taking the time to speak to staff when something may be wrong is the best way to resolve any issues.

2. Give them a good working environment

Similarly, you need to ensure they have a good working environment. Whether this means giving them a comfortable space they can relax in or allowing them to be creative when it comes to the decor, your employees will definitely appreciate that you have thought about them when it comes to the look and feel of their office

3. Ensure you have an open-door policy

Although you may not always be available to chat with your employees, letting them know that you’re open to discussing issues with them is a great way to show that you value their opinions. Whilst this doesn’t mean your door has to be open at all times, it does mean you need to take the time to have one-to-one sessions with them when needed.

Whether it’s to discuss a job well done or to talk about something that is making them unhappy, an open-door policy will show that they’re able to trust you.

4. Pay them what they deserve

Another great way to ensure your employees are happy and motivated is to pay them what they deserve for the job that they’re doing. Although it may sound obvious, a lot of businesses don’t actually do this.

The best thing to do, if you’re unsure, is to look at the industry average for the jobs you’re advertising.

5. Have regular company meals out

Although this will depend on budgets, treating your employees for an evening meal out is a great way to show them that they are appreciated. Whether it’s once a month or once a quarter, they will also look forward to the time they spend together outside of the office.

6. Pay for lunch every now and again

If you’re having a meeting that is going to run through lunch, you may want to consider ordering lunch for the whole team. Although it can become quite expensive, it’s a good way to show your appreciation for their hard work and lost free time.

If you don’t have a meeting and you fancy treating your staff, consider ordering a pizza delivery to the office every once in a while.

7. Consider employee retreats and away-days

Another great way to ensure your employees are happy and motivated is to run employee retreats and away-days. Although it may mean having to take time out of work, they are a great way of showing your appreciation when it comes to employee benefits.

Whether it’s a company trip to the races or a relaxing retreat away from technology, the options are endless.

8. Reward those that are performing well

Finally, you need to ensure you’re rewarding those that are performing well in their role. Whether it’s with a bonus or a small gift, there are lots of ways to show your employees that they’re doing a great job.
